Is it safe to eat Halloween Candy while pregnant?

If you think the answer is yes - go ahead enjoy all the candy you want on halloween - unfortunately you’re wrong. I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news but the answer for you while pregnant is about the same answer for anyone. Halloween candy can be enjoyed but you need to make sure you do it in moderation. Sorry girls you don't get to binge out and eat to your hearts content. Let me also state that if you do decide to binge I’m pretty sure you're not going to do any real harm to your baby but as with all things the advice you are going to get is to do it in moderation... it’s just better in the long run.

Here are some things to consider that might help you make good decisions when it comes to giving in to your cravings.

Some studies show that your baby is developing its taste preference while inside of you. If you eat more sweet things while pregnant your baby is likely to develop a sweet tooth once he/she is born. Might be better to snack on things that are healthier like vegetables or fruit to help give your baby a start in developing good eating habits. There are a lot of people who would down right refute this statement but I think honestly if you develop healthy eating habits for yourself this will definitely be passed on to your child even after pregnancy.

Gestational diabetes occurs in 3 to 5 percent of women. While eating sweets is probably not the cause of it you should definitely be aware of weather you have it or not before you decide to take in so much candy. Consult with your doctor to make sure you don't have this before taking in a large amount of sweets.

You can become more prone to yeast infections. Pregnant women in general are more prone to getting yeast infections but increases in sugar (yeast food) is what helps these annoying infections take hold.

Quick weight gain can lead to stretch marks. Gaining weight is important while pregnant but as talked about before you'll want to try and gain your weight gradually of the course of your pregnancy. This can help reduce the occurrence of stretch marks.

Bottom line is if you give in and eat a whole bag of Kit Kats I doubt you will do much harm, other then probably feeling sluggish and generally crappy the next day. But keeping a balance is hard whether pregnant or not so it’s good to arm yourself with reasons to help keep you in a healthy frame of mind.
