So now that the days of being told to just relax during your pregnancy are over, many women have taken to yoga as the way they exercise. There are other ways to exercise while pregnant like walking, but yoga has some benefits that are unique to its design that can prove beneficial while pregnant.

Promotes All Over Strength - Yoga strengthens your body all over. You’ll not only need strength in your body to carry the weight of the baby growing in your belly but you’ll need it long after for carry the baby in your arms. Your strengthened muscles will relieve the pressure in your lower back helping to lessen the typical aches and pains associated with pregnancy.

Teaches Breathing Techniques - The breathing techniques used in yoga help you relax your body and maximize oxygen flow. Tightening up your body while in pain can actually increase the pain you are experiencing. Using the techniques learned will teach you to relax your body through the pain.

Relaxation - The relaxation techniques can help in many ways. Not only will they help calm you through any anxiety you may be experiencing but also help you slow down your body on command, which will help you after the baby is born to “sleep when baby sleeps”.

Social Aspect - Joining a yoga class is a great way to meet other moms and connect with the community. Knowing other women who are going through the same stages of pregnancy as you are is incredibly helpful and supportive.
