Starting New Family Traditions While Pregnant or For Babies First Christmas

As a couple you began your journey together but not a lot probably changed from when you were dating. Once you become pregnant or have your first child life is going to change for you and your significant other very rapidly. It’s important to create special moments for you to share that will become the backbone of your family unit. If you have just become pregnant or have waited until the baby was born now is the time to start some family holiday traditions. You can carry these traditions throughout the many years ahead to make holiday times special for each of you.

Most likely you and your significant other have each brought traditions with you from your respective families, if not its a perfect clean slate to begin with your own. You can combine both of your traditions together making a rewarding experience for the both of you and the new little one. There are many activities which you can do to bond during the holiday season.

  1. Pick out a tree together or simply decorate the tree and make a night of it. Make hot apple cider and hot cocoa, throw on the holiday music and let the tree party begin.
  2. My favorite trees are those that are decorated with a hodgepodge of ornaments collected over many years. Start either making or buying each family member their own ornament for the tree every year. At first your tree may seem bare but you can fill in with simple ball ornaments until after many years the tree is filled with memories as you and your family grow.
  3. Get in the kitchen and bake some cookies or pie. Bonding in the kitchen can be a great way to share some family time. Maybe you can make a ginger bread house giving each family member a chance to decorate it. Even dad can get into the idea of pie!
  4. The holidays are a great time to get together and take that annual family photo. You can use that photo for holiday cards to send to family or just keep a special album you can pull out every year to appreciate how your family has grown.
  5. Take time and find a charity to donate time or goods to. Giving at this time of year can be a great way to bond and also instil good values into you and your families life.

These are just some of the many ways there are to create family time and traditions for the holiday. It really doesn't matter how big or small those traditions are. What’s important is that you have them.
